Bettina Sammut

Director People Culture and Safety, Taronga Conservation Society Australia

Bettina has been in a People leadership role for over 20 year and has a passion for aligning people function to positive business outcomes. An organisation is only as good as its people.

Bettina commence her career in HR as a store trainer at Woolworths during university, whilst studying psychology and education. This motivated her to go on to focus on adult education and organisation psychology.  Her roles have included the HR manager at Ticketek  during the Sydney 2000 Olympics and working for an international FMCG.

Bettina has been at Taronga for coming up to 20 years and heads up the People, Culture and Safety teams. When Bettina joined, Taronga was going through a huge change, physically but more important culturally.  Taronga has now significantly developed and has more than doubled revenue, and this has enabled Taronga to make large investments into Conservation both here and abroad.  International visitation is growing annually as is the local membership base.  Bettina has also been responsible for starting the Taronga Training Institute, training up staff in both Zoo Keeping and Tourism.

For the last 15 year’s Bettina has headed up the People, Learning and Safety team.  She also balances that with a healthy love of travel and family commitments.
